Being Creative

I just love being creative and making new things!  If I could only do that I'd be content! There just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day for me, I'm sure any one of you can relate to that!

I can't believe a month has gone by and I haven't posted! Where did the time go? 

Let me bring you up to speed on my DLP journal

The prompt was DONT stop til you get enough. Is it really ever enough? 

I did go in and change the lettering on this as I was not pleased with this. I just haven't taken a picture.

You wouldn't believe how many layers of paint I have on this. I love the Dylusions journal. It holds up so so well and the pages flatten right back out!

Next prompt: Covering up the good stuff!

I wrote down my private thoughts all over both pages then began covering with gesso and paint then paper and more paint. Guess I was in a Steam punky mode on this day ( I just Love Steam punk) and no Steampunk is complete without a Hot Air Balloon

Naturally I've gone back and journaled on this and added some extra touches  I may post a pic of this again later! 

 

Moving on to week 7 I believe

Prompt: It's worth repeating

I will journal inside the paper dolls later

I'm now in the process of the latest prompt which I will post another day. I hope to finish it by tomorrow. 

On a side note, I've been doing other Art. I created this lovely little juggler for an art trade. She iwas painted on a canvas board. I'm also making a larger one for myself to display in my art room

Also I e been practicing Watercoloring. I never quite had the hang of it until my friend Missy showed me some tips and then it just clicked! ( thank you Missy)

Journaling

I'm a week behind in posting. I promised myself to do it at least weekly however my Father in law passed away and we had to go to Texas for a few days. It's been tough but things are getting better.

I've been trying to discipline myself to journal more. By participating in the DLP I've found that it allows me to not be so picky and hard on myself. It's ok to be messy. I've always been afraid to layer and cover things up. I've felt like everything should be hand drawn. I'm learning that this isn't so. I can combine elements. Hand drawn, stamped images, doodles.  It's all ok.  Anything goes and it doesn't matter because it's mine. I can choose to let others see or not. 

So now I'm keeping different journals for different things. 

I ordered the Dylusions large journal for the DLP and at first I was overwhelmed because it is so big but I absolutely LOVE the paper in it, you can do anything to it and it doesn't warp or curl and I like the larger work area. I want to order the small one now.

Ok on to weeks 4 and 5. Week 4. The challenge was Writing and the prompt was words with friends. I struggled with this one not knowing what to do or which direction to go I finally came up with what I wanted at the last minute. 

All hand drawn. I used acrylic paints, colored pencils, acrylic ink, sigma white pen a cheap rubber stamp and a paint marker.  I didn't have to dig too deep. This quote to me is all encompassing.

Week 5 the challenge was Under paper. That's your paper that catches everything under your work. It's typically doodled on stamped on painted inked etc. the prompt was What lies beneath. So there I sat. I found my under papers and found parts I wanted to use and glued it on with matte gel medium in layers and I just stared at it. I had an Idea of what I wanted but I let it sit for a day. The next morning I grabbed my paints and just started painting  

I was actually pleased with how it turned out   Sorry for the sideways picture. It just shows more detail that way.

My faithful little companions!  They make me smile everyday.  My kids are all grown and living their own lives. These Pug babies save me from empty nest syndrome  I'm so grateful to have them. 

There is no other love like the love of a dog!

Art quotes

Did I mention that I was participating in the Documented Life Project? 

I've completed the first three weeks but I'm stumped on this weeks prompt. Not really stumped just not sure which direction I want to go with it. Sooo many options. The prompt is Words with friends... Where to begin?  I shall ponder this a bit then dive in later today. 

First I'd like to share my first three and the process of making one of the pages.

Week one 

Art Challenge: Book pages

Journal prompt:be your own goal keeper

 I started my first page by arranging book print. I happened to find fairytale pages and it just fell on to my page that way. Generally I don't do messy and random so this was a bit of a challenge for me

Next I added some color by applying paint with an old debit card

I just kept layering and layering on this page. I loved the title "Castles in the air"

Someone had sent me that page in a Happy Mail swap which made me decide that all of the things people have sent me in these swaps would be good to use in this journal on the various projects throughout the year. That was my goal in the first place; to create a journal using the happy mail, perfect!

I still had a blank page left on the other side so I decided to literally create my own castle!  So I painted book pages and cut it out. 

I continued adding color until I was satisfied. This was the result

Week 2 

Art challenge: Gesso

Journal prompt: the beginning is always today, 

My page?  Pretty simple but I like it

Week 3

Art challenge: Color Wheel

Journal prompt: I found I could say things with colors and shapes that I couldn't say any other way.

I started with a basic color wheel. I've made a ton of those teaching Color Theory through the years so it was hard to look beyond. I wound up Doodling and adding Art quotes. It's actually a really fun page!

One thing I love about journaling, you never know what is going to come out from page to page! All so different! 

Of course none of this could be accomplished without my trusty sidekicks to help me out!

New Beginnings

Hey everyone!

This is going to be a lengthy post since I'm so far behind! Grab a cup of coffee and kick your feet up! Here we go!

Well here we are in our 4 th week of the New Year already! Time sure does fly by!

I've been so busy and I've been challenging myself creatively. 

I took a trip last weekend to see my dear friend Missy. We always have so much fun together. I wish we lived closer. I keep hoping someday. When we get together, we usually have some sort of creative project in mind. 

I picked her up and we drove my mom to Kansas City to see her bestie then Missy and I drove on to Lawrence and did a little shopping. We went to an old bookstore in search of vintage books. Our goal for the weekend, bookbinding! Well we found the perfect books in the children's section. Cute! Then we were off to Yokahama for Sushi.  I don't do Sushi but I had the most delicious Bulgogi I've ever tasted!

Once we finished dinner we were off to start our creative weekend!  We made the trek back to her place to get started. We wound up making two books. One from an actual book

We then made books from scratch! How fun!

We also did an online class with Jane Davenport. Whimsical Faces. Here is the result

 I always hate leaving my dear dear friend. Always eager for the next Visit! 

Once home, I continued making books as I ended up selling a few. I find this very  enjoyable and plan to get even more creative with it!

Once home it was time to tackle the Art room. It's constantly evolving as I add more stuff. My hubby moved it into a larger room for me over the weekend which got me extra inspired. I've been making things to decorate it with. It's an ongoing thing. Eventually I'd like new furniture. I will find old pieces to refinish and distress as I go. 

I decided I needed a shelf and a fairy for inspiration so one late night. I painted this little shelf and made this little Art Doll.

 I just love her!

I still have so much more to talk about but I think I will save it for tomorrow!
