Lip Balm Recipe

You know I have been doing hair for 25 years and I have spent the last 10 teaching. I have trained all over and have learned so much. I have so many fun things to share with others that I have learned over the years. I used to have my students make lip Balm in class when I was teaching Chemistry and Make-up I thought I would share one of my favorite Lip Balm recipes.

2 Teaspoons Oil (any of the following, Almond, Jojoba, Mineral, Olive )
1/2 Teaspoon Grated Beeswax or Beeswax Pellets
1/2 Teaspoon Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter ( I use cocoa butter~ buy stick at dollar store! =)
Any Flavored Oil To Taste ( I use candy flavoring, it tastes and smells good)
1 Vitamin E Capsule (as a preservative) (optional)

To make a gloss add 1-2 t. vaseline

To add color 1/4 to 1/2 tube of lipstick. Have a favorite color you have to dig out of the tube?

For sheen..mineral powders.. Mineral eyeshadow works well :)

Mix first 5 ingredients in a babyfood jar. Other ingredients may be added at this time.

Place jar 1/2 way up in a bowl of boiling hot water which will act as a double boiler.

Use popsicle stick or plastic knife to stir until all beeswax is melted.

Pour into lipgloss container. Let cool completely before using.

Containers may be bought at http://www.lipbalmtubes.com/ click on small pots and jars:)

These are fun to make for the holidays!

Thinking of my kids

Taylor and Jerick being dorks

Taylor and Tash

Today finds me missing my kids. Talk about empty nest syndrome. I only have Taylor left at home part time and he will be 16 next month. I can't believe how fast time flies. All 3 have given me the greatest joy in life and I have been truely blessed with amazing kids. I am thankful for them. They make me laugh, they make me cry, they make me worry, make me proud. Most of all they make me feel loved. I enjoy being a mother and without them I wouldn't be who I am today. Whoever that is! lol

Busted

As I said before, Bella is insane today! LOL I caught her red handed.. and she has the nerve to look at me like WHAT?

Meanwhile Snotz is resting on my chair under my legs oblivious!

Trial and error

Well I have been messing with this blog trying to figure things out. I have figured out most of it and messed up some too. LOL

I have been trying to make something new in my journal every couple of days. Still not completely happy with the outcome but that's ok. Trial and error.

I have been reading other blogs and watching online tutorials and there is so much out there I feel overwhelmed sometimes. This journal is a challenge for me because I am used to making altered books and art and to not be able to add much to a page besides paper and ink, paint pencil etc.. it is challenging foe me. I have to draw most of everything or layer images and alter them. My goal is trying to keep it as flat as possible.

I wish I could just win the lottery and go to school and become an art major. I could just do nothing but create all the time and constantly be inspired. Wouldn't that be something...

It's a gorgeous day out today. A little chilly but it is nice. My dogs are restless.. the puppy anyway. She has been very mischevious for 2 days now. I think it's her age. She thinks she needs to chew everything in site so here we go. Maybe she is paying me back for getting her fixed. LOL The vet came by and removed her stitches yesterday and since then she has been into everything. I can't seem to play with her enough..doesn't she ever get tired?

Here are a couple of pages that I have been working on. They may or may not be finished, I haven't decided yet.

Revelation

I've had a revelation..go figure. I am way to hard on myself.. go figure. I have been holding myself back from being creative because I want things perfect.. they are never going to be perfect.. isn't that the whole idea? What I imagine in my mind comes out a little different on paper everytime.. Isn't that what art is about? I create my own blocks and only I can overcome them so why not just let go and be free to create things the way they come out. I hold myself to a really high standard and when it isn't exactly the way I 'd like it to be I get frustrated. How silly is that? I've spent a couple of days just goofing around and trying different techniques. I love discovering new techniques!

Ho Hum

Well here she is.. not what I wanted her to be. I am very disappointed. This is what happens when I push myself. I am not completely finished yet but here is what I have so far.

It is a gorgeous day outside, who would have thought in early Feb. it would reach 70 degrees. It makes me want to go work in the yard.

A work in progress

So here I am in the semi-peace and quiet enjoying a cup of coffee and listening to my dogs snore. My daughter asked me to paint her a mermaid for her bathroom and I have been playing around with different ideas. Here is one I just sketched up. I plan to watercolor and see how this turns out. Will this be the one?

Slacker

Oh my gosh I am such a slacker... lol I haven't done my art for 2 weeks. Last week I had a good excuse this week I have none. I better get on it!

About Me

My photo
So this is the part where I tell you about me. Hmmm well, I'm Lori, mother of 4 grown children, wife of one very kind and patient man, fan of coffee and smoothies, reading others blogs, connecting with friends. I'm obsessed with cars, music and art. Lover of animals as you will see tons of pics of my fur babies. I live in the exciting state of Kansas. No Kansas is not all flat, just most of it! I have been a hairdresser for over 25 years, 12 of which I taught. You can usually find me texting on my phone, watching a good movie, reading a good book, diddling in something artistic whether it looks good or not, playing in the garden, doing hair, cooking, shopping online and dreaming about all the things I think I need but never buy, messing with my car or out and about just driving because it feels good. or just being out and about with my friends or family. I made the dream of Salon ownership happen and I am now a proud grandmother of Loren born July 17, 2011 :-)
